TGS Seeks GA for Video Development and Production

The Graduate School (TGS) announces a Video Development and Production internship position, which will give one doctoral or MFA student the opportunity to create and produce video pieces that capture the work and initiatives of TGS. The intern will work in a paid, 10-month position, interacting with leadership in higher education and gaining experience creating strategic communication pieces that showcase current activities of the graduate community, including students, faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows.

Position Description:

TGS seeks an outstanding doctoral student to assist with video development, production, and related special projects. The position runs from October through June. The primary focus of the intern will be collaborating with select TGS staff and campus partners in the exploration, planning, shooting, editing, and production of videos for web content and promotional purposes.

The intern will work primarily with the Associate Director of Communications in the execution of the specific duties highlighted below to establish a digital presence on the web through video creation. This will be a highly collaborative position, and the intern will work in a team environment with other TGS staff and campus partners.

The intern will also have the opportunity to shadow TGS’s Associate Director of Communications, accompanying them in key institutional committee meetings. As this might sometimes entail exposure to confidential and sensitive matters, confidentiality will be a requirement for the successful working of this internship program.

This position is five to seven hours per week and pays $7,200 for nine months.


Principal Duties:

  • Create comprehensive plans to best showcase the graduate community, special events, and resources to convey the research, accomplishments, and activities of TGS and the entire graduate community in a way that is attractive and accessible to multiple audiences
  • Review opportunities for video capturing and advise on best practices and use of resources
  • Capture video at TGS events
  • Edit, produce and publish video with guidance from Associate Director of Communications
  • Explore social media strategies to promote engagement with the graduate community.
  • Assist with other related projects of the office, as needed and as time permits.

Qualifications:

  • TGS doctoral or MFA student in good academic standing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, with the ability to work with a wide variety of personalities.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, and attention to detail, required.
  • Strong research and writing skills required.
  • Previous experience, planning, shooting, editing, and publishing videos for web and professional use
  • Familiarity with Final Cut Pro or similar editing software
  • Experience creating communications and published materials for the public preferred.
  • Past participation in relevant student organizations at Northwestern preferred.

Select candidates will be invited to interview with TGS in November The chosen candidate must provide written confirmation from his or her advisor confirming good academic standing and the ability to accommodate a nine-month commitment to the internship.
