Opening for Faculty Senate Research Assistant

Hours per week: 20-30
 
Location: Evanston campus (may require travel to Chicago campus)
 
Job Summary:
 
The Faculty Senate research assistant will work closely with Senate leadership and the administrative coordinator in developing and executing a research program on shared university governance. The research will particularly focus on comparable faculty bodies at peer institutions. The position will last through the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
 
Research
  • Conducts literature reviews and prepares bibliographic materials
  • Collects and analyzes quantitative and qualitative data from publicly available information
  • Drafts reports and memoranda for Faculty Senators
  • Completes other research tasks as requested by Faculty Senators and the administrative coordinator 
Administrative
  • Assists administrative coordinator with meetings of the Faculty Senate, University Assembly, Executive Committee, and other bodies as needed 
Supervision
  • Occasionally supervises administrative aides in the Faculty Senate office
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates must not have completed a graduate degree.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-organized, excellent attention to detail, and able to multi-task
  • Experience with research in the social sciences or higher education
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years of experience in education/public policy
  • Familiarity with university governance at Northwestern or a peer institution
