Mearah Quinn-Brauner Appointed Associate Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development at TGS

Modified: October 18, 2016

Dear Directors of Graduate Study and Program Contacts,

I am pleased to announce that Mearah Quinn-Brauner, PhD will join The Graduate School’s staff as Associate Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development on October 21, 2016.

In this role, Mearah will serve as the central leader for all professional development offerings, providing strategic direction while overseeing the resources and partnerships TGS maintains both within and outside of the University. She will help us to better meet the needs of our graduate student and postdoctoral populations, using metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of current programming and identifying opportunities for future initiatives. The creation of this position is a significant commitment to service; we take seriously our commitment to providing TGS students and postdocs with robust training to prepare them with the professional skills that are needed for a variety of career outcomes. This position will help us to enhance our current offerings, to seed professional development programming at the program level, and to use assessments and outcomes data to predict areas of future need.

Mearah earned her PhD in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania, and has taught English, writing, and film classes at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Mearah has served as Assistant Director of Student Career Advising in Northwestern’s Career Advancement (NCA) office since 2014, where she has supported doctoral students across all disciplines, helping them connect their experience to professional opportunities both within and outside of academia. Plans are underway at NCA to fill the vacancy that will be left by Mearah’s move to TGS, and we look forward to continuing the partnership between NCA and TGS to support students.

Please join me in welcoming Mearah to TGS as she further expands the services offered to graduate students and postdocs at Northwestern.

Warmly,

Dwight A. McBride, PhD
Dean of The Graduate School & Associate Provost for Graduate Education
