Faculty Women of Color in the Academy Conference

On April 1-2, 2016, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will host the Faculty Women of Color in the Academy Conference, a national conference that offers women of color, faculty, university administrators, post-doctoral and graduate students a unique educational and professional opportunity to network, engage, and learn with peers from around the country. The two-day conference features prominent and well-known women of color scholars as keynote speakers, panelists, and workshop facilitators.

Presenters include: Julianne Malveaux, President Emerita of Bennett College, author and syndicated communist; Sonia Nieto, Professor Emerita of Language, Literacy and Culture, School of Education, University of Massachusetts, Amherst; Mia Tuan, Dean of the College of Education, University of Washington; and Kerry Ann Rockquemore, President and CEO of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity. They will share their wisdom, insight, and experiences as women of color in the academy. There will also be a special performance by Joy Harjo, internationally known poet, writer, member of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation, and the 2015 Wallace Stevens award winner for poetry.
