Catalyzing the Modernization of Biomedical Graduate Education

Modified: November 17, 2016

NIGMS has launched several initiatives to support efforts to catalyze the modernization of biomedical graduate education.  A report has just been released summarizing the results of one of these initiatives, a Request for Information (RFI) that sought input that would help in identifying, developing and potentially implementing strategies to catalyze the modernization of graduate education at the national level. The report outlines the 90 unique responses received from students, faculty, institutions and professional societies. Themes represented in the responses were organized around these five major categories:

  • Institutional and training-related issues
  • Skills development
  • Systemic issues within the research enterprise
  • Careers
  • Administrative and review issues
