2016 INVO Practicum

The INVO Practicum is an unpaid internship program open to all Northwestern students and postdocs across campus who are interested in learning more about the technology transfer process as well as being exposed to the vast areas of innovation at Northwestern. The interns will gain hands-on experience in evaluating Northwestern technologies for patentability, marketability, and commercialized readiness. IN addition, they will be expected to effectively communicate their findings with INVO staff and faculty inventors. The Practicum has trained and mentored 15 graduate students and postdocs since January 2015.

Program Requirements

  • Attendance at training sessions
  • Commitment of 10 hours per week over a six-month period (~ 1 day/week)
  • Written permission from PI to participate in the program

Desired Qualifications

  • Deep technical knowledge in scientific field
  • Interest in intellectual property and commercialization
  • Willingness and ability to research & analyze a variety of technological fields
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Two sessions run per year: (1) January to June; and (2) June to December. The INVO Practicum in an unpaid internship.

Early submission is recommended as applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The first round of applications for the July 2016 cohort will be reviewed starting April 15, 2015. Interviews will be held at INVO in May.
