The Block's Exhibition- The Left Front reviewed in The New Yorker

Modified: February 2, 2015

The New Yorker has recognized the Block exhibition, The Left Front: Radical Art in the “Red Decade,” 1929-1940, which was curated by Art History PhD students John Murphy and Jill Bugajski. The exhibition highlights a period in American history when visual artists, through their membership in the progressive John Reed Club (JRC), joined forces with writers and intellectuals to form a “left front," dedicated to making socially-conscious art. The article mentions Northwestern as the origin of the exhibition and John and Jill as the original curators, giving a glowing shout-out to two of Northwestern's talented PhD students.
