Second Annual Northwestern Computational Research Day

Modified: March 5, 2015

Tuesday, April 14, 8:30am-6pm
Norris University Center

The second annual Northwestern Computational Research Day is being held on April 14, 2015. This event is hosted by NUIT and sponsored in conjunction with the McCormick School of Engineering, Kellogg School of Management, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, Feinberg School of Medicine, CIERA (Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics), Chemistry of Life Processes Institute, Northwestern University Library, and the Office for Research. Corporate sponsors currently include NVIDIA.

The all-day, campus-wide event is designed to showcase computational research at Northwestern, as well as strengthen the computational research community at Northwestern. Register here by April 7. Early registration is recommended, as capacity is limited. There will be registration at the event, but pre-registered guests will have precedence.

Highlights of the day will include presentations from Northwestern researchers, guest speakers, lightning talks on Computing Services at Northwestern, and the following sessions:

1) Poster Sessions

Sponsored by CIERA and the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute, the Poster Session will feature 40 selected research posters to be presented in the Wildcat Room in Norris. Abstract submissions for the poster session are due by Friday, March 27. Posters will be judged and winners will be awarded prizes. For more information on the session, abstract criteria, and the competition, visit: http://www.it.northwestern.edu/research/about/campus-events/research-day/poster-session.html

2) Data Visualization Challenge

Sponsored by NVIDIA, the Data Visualization Challenge will be a judged competition between selected proposals. For examples of the work done by the Northwestern Visualization Services in these categories, please visit: http://www.it.northwestern.edu/research/services/visualization/index.html

Those who are planning to sign up for the Data Visualization Challenge have a chance to hone their skills by attending the Visualization Hack-a-Thon on March 12. Students will be able to get their questions answered by visualization experts and have the opportunity to try out the 52 megapixel 3D display in the Center for Advanced Molecular Imaging.
