Thursdays starting January 22
First week in Cook Hall Atrium

Interested in partner dancing? Want to dance to jazz music? Or just looking for something social and relaxing to do on Thursdays? Come to NSDS's swing dancing classes!

All classes are open to the public. No need to bring your own partner; partners rotate throughout the class.

Class I: 6:45-7:45PM : Beginner friendly swing
Class II: 8-9PM : Continuing Lindy Hop

Class Descriptions:

Beginner Friendly Swing: No prerequisites. This class is appropriate for beginners as well as intermediate dancers looking for a better grasp on their fundamentals. The class will emphasize musicality, partner connection/communication, footwork, and movement quality to provide a solid foundation for more advanced courses and (most importantly) creative dances on the dance floor. That said, these are topics that even advanced dancers often revisit.

Continuing Lindy Hop: As a prerequisite, dancers should be able to perform solid swing outs and lindy circles. Students will learn a number of variations deriving from these movements, complimentary lindy staples such as sugar pushes and side passes, as well as how to mix in steps from other swing styles. This course will be more technical, providing students with the mechanics to add complexity to their dancing without losing sight of the music. Particular focus will be given to the unique challenges swing dancers face in confronting the wide variety of different tempos, rhythms, and styles within vernacular jazz. Does your swing out fall apart once the music hits 195bpm? Left hanging on 7 and 8 when things get low and slow? We can help.

See Facebook for location schedule. Email NUswingdance@gmail.com for weekly updates.

Cost: $5/class  OR  $30/the entire series (8 one-hour-classes)  OR  $50/both series (16 one-hour-classes)
