Just announced: Graduate Assistantship – Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, Northwestern University

Build your credentials and portfolio in the public humanities!

The new Graduate Assistantship is a 2015-16 academic-year opportunity at the Kaplan Institute for the Humanities designed to build professional capacity in programming, administration and leadership. The role will encompass a broad range of duties, from coordinating undergraduate student involvement to building collaboration and outreach initiatives with NU and outside organizations. The goal of the assistantship is to develop the skills to build and expand your credentials and portfolio in the public humanities, with particular training in understanding the mission and operations of an academic humanities institute.

Select Projects and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and administration of our Spring Break program, The Humanities Plunge
  • Shape messaging and communications strategies for multimedia platforms
  • Develop and coordinate initiatives to reach diverse constituencies within NU (e.g., Block Museum, NU Press, Digital Humanists in the Library) and outside of NU (e.g., Chicago Humanities Festival, Odyssey Program, Evanston Library)
  • Obtain practical knowledge and skills in administration
  • Mentor students in our Undergraduate Affiliate Program

Eligibility

  • PhD student in the humanities or social sciences
  • Must be in good academic standing and have the approval of the program DGS and primary thesis advisor
  • Must not be beyond sixth year in the year of appointment

Funding 

  • Stipend for academic year (Sept.-June)
  • Tuition scholarship
  • Health Insurance
