In support of President Schapiro’s Update on Diversity and Inclusion

Modified: December 9, 2015

Dear Members of The Graduate School’s Community,

On Wednesday, President Schapiro sent a letter discussing some of the current efforts underway to create a more diverse and inclusive community at Northwestern. We wish to augment his message by mentioning some of our ongoing diversity and inclusion work in The Graduate School.

  • To enhance the experience of graduate students, we support a number ofinclusive graduate student associations and host quarterly receptions for Underrepresented Minority (URM) students, faculty, and staff.
  • We are evaluating opportunities to engage the diverse graduate community in conversations about cultural competency and improving campus climate. We will have more to say about relevant upcoming programming in the new year.
  • Please review our Diversity Report to learn more about current initiatives and opportunities to engage with our Office of Diversity & Inclusion.

Diversity and Inclusion are strategic priorities for The Graduate School. We will continue to cultivate an environment that supports our students and to build a community that values diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and approaches.

Sincerely,

Craig R. Bina, Ph.D.
