Graduate Students Can Apply to Become an InterCultural Explorers Guide

Modified: April 20, 2015

TGS students can welcome new international graduate students to Northwestern next fall by becoming an InterCultural Explorers Guide! Guides will plan weekly social outings for groups of international students during Fall Quarter 2015. They also serve as peer mentors, answering basic questions about culture and language on an as-needed basis. Guides receive a stipend, event budget, and leadership experience as they make new friends and serve as a mentor to students new to the American way of life.

What previous Guides are saying:

"This is an excellent opportunity to have fun and also help international students get to know the city of Chicago. I could not ask for anything better than being paid to have fun with interesting, smart people!"

"Being an InterCultural Explorers Guide provided me with the opportunity to see American culture through new eyes, and allowed me to give back to new graduate students the insights about succeeding at Northwestern that I have learned through my own experiences."

The Graduate School requires that guides be full-time PhD or MFA students, native speakers of English, and willing to answer occasional questions from their students by phone or email. Guides will receive training and need not be from the Chicago area. Learn more and apply by contacting Erin Leddon, Associate Director of English Language Programs.
