TGS Faculty Workshop for Research Mentors

Mentors of PhD Students and Postdocs are invited to participate in Workshop for Research Mentors on June 11, and June 12, 2014.

By stipulating our expectations as mentors and communicating clearly, we help students progress toward independent research. This intensive workshop focuses on helping you develop as a research mentor. Activities and discussion will focus on (1) skills that faculty need to help more kinds of students make progress toward autonomy; and (2) tools and strategies to help faculty and students become dynamic partners in doctoral students’ intellectual and professional development.

Sessions will be facilitated by Tracy C. Davis (Theatre/English/TGS) and Matthew Goldrick (Linguistics/Cognitive Science).

All workshop participants should plan to attend the 8:30am-12pm session on Wednesday, June 11. Humanists and Social Scientists should plan to attend the 8:30am-1pm session on Thursday, June 12. Scientists and Engineers should plan to attend the 12pm-4:30pm session on Thursday, June 12. Please note that attendance at the Wednesday session and ONE of the Thursday sessions is expected of all participants.
